Head of Engineering and Data Platform

Do you want to own and shape the data platform that powers our products and analytics — while leading and developing a team to drive the transformation to a modern, scalable data architecture?

At Signum Life Science, our data platform is at the core of everything we deliver. We are now looking for an experienced profile to take ownership of the platform and lead both its daily operation and its future transformation.

You will play a key role as we are about to embark on a major transformation of our data platform, transitioning from our current Oracle-based setup to a scalable Databricks architecture enabling advanced analytics and operational excellence.

Signum has a 50-year heritage, combined with the ambition and mindset of a scale-up.

The role

You will work at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and business value.

This is both a hands-on architectural leadership role and a people leadership role, where you lead our international DevOps team (6 people) from our Copenhagen office and ensure that the platform evolves in line with business needs.

Your responsibilities

Platform ownership and strategy

  • Manage the data platform vision, roadmap, and prioritization
  • Define architecture principles, data models, and integration patterns
  • Ensure alignment between platform capabilities and business strategy
  • Translating business needs into technical requirements and priorities
  • Proactively plan platform development, maintenance, and improvements
  • Develop a deep understanding of our data landscape to identify risks, opportunities, and constraints

Architectural and engineering excellence

  • Establish and enforce best practices for CI/CD, testing, deployment, and versioning
  • Ensure robust, scalable, and maintainable data architecture
  • Drive automation and standardization across the platform
  • Ensure high observability, performance, reliability, and cost control
  • Design and oversee scalable ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Ensure high data quality, validation, and governance standards
  • Enable data availability for analytics, machine learning, and product use

Platform transformation

  • Lead the migration from legacy Oracle-setup to a modern Databricks platform
  • Be the key decision-maker on architectural decisions
  • Ensure data consistency, performance, and minimal disruption
  • Work closely with external partners and internal stakeholders

Leadership and stakeholder management

  • Manage and develop a team of Data- and Software Engineers as well as Production and Quality Managers.
  • Facilitating collaboration across cross-functional teams (UX, product, Data Science, BI, Engineering and Consulting)
  • Act as the key technical counterpart for internal stakeholders and clients
  • Support commercial and consulting teams in shaping data-driven opportunities
  • Asist the Director of Operations with development and execution of strategy

Your profile

We imagine that you:

  • Have a strong background as a solution architect or senior data engineer
  • Have hands-on experience with Databricks
  • Have deep experience with CI/CD and modern engineering practices
  • Have strong experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and data architecture
  • Have solid SQL and PySpark experience
  • Have experience leading engineering teams and driving delivery
  • Understand how to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
  • Are proactive, structured, and take ownership of outcomes

Experience from life science is a plus but not required.
